Westmoore varsity fastpitch softball team is currently 22-5 and undefeated in district play. Regionals are in early October and lead to competing in the state tournament in mid October.

“The chant helps us get hyped up and gets our heads in the game and ready to play,” shortstop, junior Mattison L. said. Pregame, the team prays and breaks out in a chant. The chant helps them get hyped and ready to win.

It has been a memorable season for many of the softball players. With their wins being more than four times the amount of their losses, the season has brought a number of exciting memories.

“My most memorable moment so far this season was throwing a girl out at 2nd base with a bunt at Yukon with Mattie,” first basemen, junior Kailey G. said.

A standout is the Moore War game. One of the biggest rivals it is softballs favorite. “Moore War is always my favorite game because the energy is the best and it gets us all excited for the rest of the season,” designated player, sophomore Emma S. said.

Monday, September 24th, was the Pink Out Game. The game honored a former Westmoore teacher and softball coach, Jeanne Barber in her battle with cancer. While the game is for all breast cancer victims, some of the girls had their own reasons for playing. “My grandma died of breast cancer, so I played my game for her,” Mattison L. said. The team is very proud to be supporting such an important cause.

With Regionals and State in October, the team’s winning season record has set them up for being contenders.
