The freshman football team took home the COAC conference championship in emphatic fashion. Finishing with an 8-1 overall record, their lone loss belonged to the Yukon Millers. This game had flashes of a boxing match with how back and forth the evening played out.

Coach Hopson’s team held their composure even after all of their struggles. Quarterback Zane C. had a consistent game, fluently finding his targets through Yukon’s coverage. With every score from the team, Yukon would quickly answer with a score of their own. The guys found themselves down by a score with two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Heavily depending on their run game, Running Back Trey F. was waiting for action in the backfield. The handoff from Zane, had Trey charging through his offensive line and bouncing outside of the action to leap and slide into the end zone.

The sideline exploded into celebration, the game was now tied. Coach Hopson immediately elected to go for a two-point conversion, using his dominant running game to his advantage, he once again had Trey lined up behind his quarterback.

Once the ball was snapped, Zane handed the ball off to Tray who, for another time, found the end zone and the stadium couldn’t contain themselves. The Jaguars were now X Games Champions!

Trey F. and Isaiah C. gathered together in complete triumph and celebrated in victorious fashion.

“There were lots of emotions, it was very intense and I was relieved when the game was over. When I scored the final touchdown I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t know it was real. We were just glad it ended in a championship,” Tray said.

The crowd was elated to see the team win the coveted championship game.

“This meant so much to us, it means accomplishing our goals and our hard work paying off,” defensive end Isaiah C. said.

An amazing season couldn’t have ended any better for the young team. A chance to redeem themselves and bring a COAC championship back home, they delivered on their goal.
