Instagram and Snapchat are hugely popular but they come with caution. Catfish is part of the social media culture.
What is catfish? People pretend to be someone else by using their pictures and videos. These people are usually asking for money or tricking people by looking for friendships and relationships.
“Honestly, most people will think this will never happen to them, but it does happen. Most people know what catfish are and know what kind of moves they make which are not showing their face on camera. Their excuses will be how they were bullied in school or are, and they make an account to make themselves feel better by hurting others. Some catfish live off the money they receive by their online relationships,” freshman Emmily Urey said.
“They will say “I didn’t mean for it to go this far” or try to justify what they did. I have had someone catfish as one of my friends and till this day still use her pictures. I have seen so many people’s picture on other profiles, and the amount of people reporting them is crazy. Not everyone you meet online is a catfish, but you do have to look at their picture properly. The apologies are always like this “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to” these people will know your secret just because you thought they were who they said they were. If you want to learn more about these types of people, there is a show called (Catfish) and many articles about them,” Urey said.
